  1. Given tonight's result (levy failed 57%-43%) it should be an interesting meeting.

  2. I just got word that neither Andy Teater nor Dave Lundregan will be able to attend the Coffee.

  3. Even more fun!

Wonder how the voters will feel about 2/5ths of the board being missing...

  7. And in Andy Teaters defense he announced he would have to leave early due to a daughters soccer tournament but he stayed for the entire meeting.
Half of the discussion was about the particular issues of MS sport and the gifted programs being cut - short term remedies to the long term problem. But the other half was rather spirited discussion about exactly where the money is being spent and a general feeling that we don't get the actual facts - at least not in any detail. Two members DID admit that they know a lot of folks are upset about salaries, but they used the ORC to point out that they are not allowed to divulge much, if any information regarding negotiations. There is a law that needs changed! I still think they danced around the subject and could have been a bit more transparent. I still question why the contract extension this year instead of addressing the issue before the levy. I think both sides did themselves a disservice with that tactic.
Another point was brought up that while most of us received the e-mail blast regarding the WBC loons coming to picket Darby, none of us got one announcing this meeting. Hmmm....another missed opportunity for transparency.

  8. The school board needs to look at the amount of money spent on teaching English to non English speaking students. In the budget the heading is other instruction. the budget for this $6 million+.
Why would we pay to teach, reading and speaking English?
I also understand that the board did not know where the cuts in the budget would take place, even after the Supt. said where the cuts would be.
Its almost like the ones that were said to be
cut will not be the ones?
