  1. Paul,

Is this a "regular" or special board meeting? Will you be sending out Board Meeting Materials before hand?

    Thanks,
    Steve B.

    1. It's a regular board meeting. I'll be posting the materials as soon as we get them, probably Monday (2 days before the meeting).

    2. Paul,

Given the responsibility and oversight the board is charged with I feel the board and the community should be given the material at least a week in advance. Most corporate charters require the board book be provided 5 business days in advance of meeting.

If we are only running the district 48 hours before meeting how will we make our youth ready for the future?

    3. Is that you Dave? Can't recall that I've ever read a corporate charter requiring the Board to be given materials a certain period before the meeting, although having sat on a few, I know that it's customary.

I don't know that there's a strong connection between routine board meeting materials and preparing our students for the future, but I understand your point.

    4. There's usually a meeting notice requirement for a board, at which time the agenda is made available to board members. 4 days is typical (sometimes required by law too).

The more time the board has to digest the materials for a meeting, the more constructive the meeting is. Last minute agenda's and meeting info smacks of disorganization.

    5. There is no requirement in the law that an agenda be made available 4 days in advance to the School Board (you are welcome to examine the "Yellow Book" published by the Ohio Attorney General if you want confirmation of that). Nor does our local policy (BD) have that requirement.

I'm not arguing that it's not a good idea to get the agenda and supporting documents out ahead of time. But note that many governing boards meet only once a quarter or so, which usually means there's lots of stuff on which to brief the board members.

Our school board meets twice a month.
